New York designer Free Maison gives chainmail fashion a luxury glow-up

“The tote bag is totally different from any bag I’ve felt, even ones with metal finishes,” an admirer told TAG24 as she swung the bag over her arm. “It’s heavy, in a good way. I feel like a bada** warrior carrying it.”

The Emory Alumni Network celebrated the launch of Free Maison over Instagram, LinkedIn, and even a short TikTok video.

The quarterly textile art magazine featured Jesse Aviv on their social media and email newsletters for Aviv’s development of the ciphering technique, showcased in their ARTwear exhibition. The Merovingian Lamé is also the featured image for the month of January on their 2025 calendar.

“Fashion’s Favorite Cosmic Queen” has worn Free Maison to the American Ballet Theatre 2024 Spring Gala, 12th Annual First Ladies Luncheon, and a variety of other events and impromptu photoshoots.

Stylist Martin Gregory wore a Free Maison mane to the Rick Owens show during Paris Fashion Week. The show was held at the Palais de Tokyo.

Curator and fashion history researcher and professor Charlotte von Hardenburgh wore a custom rusted Free Maison tote to the 2024 Met Gala Press Preview. The bag was partially painted in an iron paint and finished with an oxidizing solution. This created real rust on aluminum for the Garden of Time theme.

Photographer Megan Maloy captured designer Jesse Aviv in the Free Maison studio as a feature for the Jersey City Art and Studio Tour. The photo was displayed in Newport Mall and Free Maison pieces were on display in the gallery/studio level of Art 150 in the Powerhouse Arts District of Jersey City.

The Merovingian Lamé received an honorable mention for the 29th International Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Fine Craft at the Wayne Art Center in Wayne, PA. The highly competitive show was juried by renowned Los-Angeles-based curator Jo Lauria.
